Celebrating National Principals Month: Kim Moody of R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy!

October is National Principals Month! Our Principals are amazing instructional leaders dedicated to ensuring our students learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!  We’re recognizing these inspiring leaders with special posts throughout the month. Please join us in thanking them for all they do to support our mission of being the highest performing school district in Georgia.

R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy Principal Kim Moody

Why did you want to become a teacher?
I chose to become a teacher because I enjoy working with young people and find joy in guiding them through their educational journey.  Teaching provides me with the opportunity to give back to the community while making a meaningful difference in students’ lives.  The chance to watch students grow and succeed is both fulfilling and inspiring, and it continues to fuel my passion for education.

Who was the most influential teacher in your life?
Choosing the most influential teacher in my school career is difficult because I was fortunate to have many wonderful educators.  I would say it is a tie between my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Ray, who sparked my love for learning and made my first school experiences positive and welcoming, and my high school math teacher, Mrs. Trammell, who supported my growth in algebra and geometry by explaining concepts clearly and always checking for my understanding.

What’s a favorite memory from your first year as a teacher?
My favorite memories were the connections I built with my students and their families.  I’ll never forget when a family invited me and my teaching team into their home for a special luncheon to show their appreciation for all we had done for their child.  Hearing their heartfelt thanks and feeling the warmth in their home made me realize just how meaningful our work can be.

How did teaching prepare you to be a Principal?
Teaching provided the foundation for my work as a Principal by allowing me to utilize and refine instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and assessment practices to support student learning.  It also gave me the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and community engagement.  These experiences have shaped my approach as a principal, guiding data-informed decisions and fostering a positive school culture focused on growth and achievement for all students.
